Year 3 & 4 Art

Year 3 & 4 have started their new art unit on printing. They explored the different kinds of prints you could get from classroom objects. They also enjoyed using white ink on black paper.
It was wonderful to see all of the different-coloured clothes last Friday, which showed that we celebrate and embrace differences at HPS. Thank you to all of the children and school adults who took part. The autistic children I spoke to last week really appreciated the day; many felt empowered to talk about their autism with their friends. They also appreciated watching the ‘Amazing Things Happen’ video in assembly, as it raised awareness and allowed positive discussions to start. The ‘Amazing Things Happen’ video is readily available online (eg on Youtube) if you would like to watch this again at home with your children.

Exmoor Challenge walk

Congratulations to the eleven Year 6 children, who got up early on Saturday to take on their third training walk, completing 6 challenging miles over two steep hills and undulating terrain on Exmoor, walking between Exford to Winsford.

We were so lucky with the weather, wonderful views seen at the top of the hills. We were really proud of young walkers overcoming the steep and muddy terrain whilst developing their map reading skills.

Thank you, parents, for your ongoing support, as well as Miss Higginson, Mr and Mrs Soper.

Congratulations

An incredible 64 children achieved their individual target in Accelerated Reader, last half term- well done everyone and keep up the reading!

Democracy at HPS

As part of our learning about British Values, we involve the children in having a voice in many different ways.
  • Subject leaders speak to children about their learning and ideas during 'pupil voice' sessions, and we talk to them about which clubs they would like to be offered, or what they like about school/think should be improved.
  • As part of democracy at HPS, children were asked for feedback about the attendance rewards, which have been altered as a result.
  • Children have been asked to choose their favourite meals for the special census meal. (More information about both of these are below).
  • The current lunchtime behaviour targets have been chosen by talking to children and the mealtime assistants (MTAs lead the play and supervise children at lunchtimes).
  • The school council meet regularly to give feedback on behalf of their class.
We are pleased that children are HPS have the opportunity to have their say and have their voices heard.

Special Census Meal

The favourite meals, as chosen by the children are:

MAIN - margarita pizza
VEGETARIAN - Mac n Cheese
DESSERT - surprise chocolate brownie

Competition time: We would now like children to give these meals some special and interesting names. The winning names will be used for the menu on Thursday 16th May. House points for children who come up with the best names!

Please talk to your child about their ideas. Entries will be accepted until 10am on Monday 1st May.

https://forms.office.com/e/y0fNb0jtb9

Winning names will be announced by Tuesday 7th May.

Behaviour targets and golden tickets

Based on feedback from MTAs and children, the outdoor behaviour target (and focus for golden tickets) will be RESPECT.
  • respect for the environment
  • respect for the MTAs
  • respect for equipment
  • respect for each other

Indoor target: We will try to cut up our own food. We will show respect to adults and each other.

MTAs will be looking for children who are achieving this target and giving them golden tickets.

Each child who receives a 'golden ticket' has the chance of being randomly selected to be on the 'top table' and be first in the line for lunch!

Attendance rewards

Based on feedback from children and parents, we have reviewed our attendance rewards and made amendments. We have had assemblies with children to explain why attendance is important, held a parent workshop about attendance, explaining our duties and responsibilities, and explained to parents and children how we support those children (and families) where attendance has declined. We have spoken to the school council as well as children in various classes to gain their ideas.

As a result of the parental and children's feedback we are continuing to reward children who make improvements with their attendance on an ongoing basis. We will also send certificates home for good attendance at the end of each term.

The current attendance from the start of the academic year across the school is:

Reception: 93.37%
Year 1: 95.17%
Year 2: 96.09%
Year 3: 96.38%
Year 4: 96.49%
Year 5: 94.71%
Year 6: 92.84%
