Stand Against Violence
On Tuesday 14th November the Year 6 children will be involved in an exciting workshop led by the charity SAV (Stand Against Violence). They will be thinking about violence and its consequences. Activities will include drama, art and discussion. SAV tackle the issue of violence from multiple perspectives, including the impact on perpetrators, highlight the consequences of violence and challenge young children to consider their actions on others, to make positive future choices

Platinum Jubilee Tree-Planting
The KS2 school councillors were honoured to represent our school as we were invited to a tree planting ceremony in Westexe Park on Tuesday last week. The mayor, councillor Wally Burke, his wife, plus other local councillors, met the children. The mayor explained about other trees that have been planted in our school, and in the park, to commemorate special events. The tree that was planted last Tuesday is to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee of the late Queen. The reason that it wasn't planted at the time, he explained, was it was not the right season for tree planting. The children were interested to learn that the tree was 10 years old already - so older than some of them!
|
As you can see, 2 children assisted with planting the trees, and all of the children had their photos taken for the local newspaper.

Year 5 Football
|
Congratulations to the year 5 girls for taking part in a football tournament at THS on Thursday 9th November.
|
The girls were really enthusiastic and displayed great sportsmanship. Despite not having much experience, the girls came second in their group and third overall, which was a fantastic result! Mrs Warren's player of the match was Poppy, who worked really hard up front in attack.
|
Thank you to Mrs Warren & Mrs Brandon-Brown for taking the girls to the tournament.

Caring for children with coughs
As you know, coughs and colds are a common part of childhood, especially during the winter. Most of these infections are caused by viruses and children recover quickly with a bit of rest and paracetamol. However, many parents of young children can be very worried when their children are unwell and would welcome support and guidance on what to do and when to seek help.
|
There is a simple tool that can help navigate you through these worries. The 'Caring for children with cough' leaflet was produced by researchers at the University of Bristol after extensive work with parents. It explains what parents should do when looking after a child with cough and when parents should take their child to see a doctor. This leaflet is in routine use by local NHS services.

Intercom Trust are now taking referrals for our new project – Family Pride South West.
The project has 4 components;
|
- Family Pride Events – fun family events for families where at least one member is LGBT+.
- Parenting Support – We will be delivering Group Triple P for LGBT+ parents/carers with children between the ages of 2 and 12. This will be an 8 week course focussing on parenting skills.
- Family Relationship Support – Our family practitioners can work with families where there is tension or communication problems between parents (together or apart). This can include disagreements on how best to support an LGBT+ child in the family, or where a parent has come out as LGBT+ and they are unsure what this means for their relationship, as well as more general relationship difficulties.
- Couples/co-parent counselling – We will have counselling available for parents who wish to work through difficulties in a therapeutic setting.
