HPS School Council 2023-2024

The School Council has key responsibilities:

  • To represent pupils, discuss issues that classes bring to their attention and work to resolve them.
  • To select the charities that the school will support each academic year, which this year will be Diabetes UK.
  • To respond to annual pupil survey results and work to solve problems.
  • To help with school development to make the school an even better place to learn.

Introducing our new School Councillors this year:

Year 6

Year 5

Year 3/4

Year 2

Year 1

What we have been doing so far:

December 2023

Our School Councillors managed to raise a total of £121.79 by asking everyone to wear a Christmas jumper. They all looked great in their jumpers and enjoying their Christmas dinner. The money raised will be split between the school and our chosen charity (RSCPA).

November 2023 – Platinum Jubilee Tree-Planting

The KS2 school councillors were honoured to represent our school as we were invited to a tree planting ceremony in Westexe Park on Tuesday last week. The mayor, councillor Wally Burke, his wife, plus other local councillors, met the children. The mayor explained about other trees that have been planted in our school, and in the park, to commemorate special events. The tree that was planted last Tuesday is to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee of the late Queen. The reason that it wasn’t planted at the time, he explained, was it was not the right season for tree planting. The children were interested to learn that the tree was 10 years old already – so older than some of them!

As you can see, 2 children assisted with planting the trees, and all of the children had their photos taken for the local newspaper.

November 2023

This year, our school council organised a Children in Need Day. We asked everyone to wear something yellow or spotty, and we made lots of posters about the event. Everyone took part in the Bearpee Challenge – we were exhausted!

We managed to raise £217.18

Our Eco Committee, have been working really hard to improve our Kitchen Garden. This week, they covered the beds for winter, continued weeding and planted daffodils, which will hopefully make an appearance in Spring. Well done Eco Warriors!

October 2023

With support from our Eco Committee, who picked the apples and pears from the orchard, we managed to sell £25.90 worth of fruit.

September 2023

In our School Council meeting, we chose three charities that we wanted to support. We then decided to ask the whole school to vote for one of the charities.

The votes were counted and the children have chosen that the charity we will be supporting this year is our local RSPCA.

September 2023

We had our first meeting this year, where we got to know each other and discussed how we can improve our school.

We stood up in front of our classes to ask them to bring in donations for Harvest.

In total, we collected 383 donations for CHAT!

June 2024

On Thursday 6th June, our Year 5 and 6 school councillors went to visit Blundell’s for an event to commemorate D-day. They learnt about how the British, Americans and Canadians planned and carried out the start of the end of World War two.
