Tiverton Nativity Trail

At the end of last year, our children created Mary and Joseph as part of the Tiverton Nativity Trail. Patrick Barker, the pastor at Tiverton Baptist Church, has shared with us these photos of the characters made by HPS and contributions from other local schools. We think they all looked fantastic!

Positive Playtimes at HPS

We are delighted that the new playground markings are now in place. This is helping to increase activity levels with the children at break and lunchtimes.

The children have really embraced the challenge to beat their personal bests and also compete against one another in standing long jumps and at the target throwing spot. They are enjoying the strategy game of noughts and crosses, having fun playing hopscotch and also snakes and ladders. All of the games have proven to be very popular, encouraging positive interaction between children across year groups, and also promoting our TRAIN values of TEAMWORK and RESPECT.

We have three new mini football pitches (which is great as football is always a popular lunchtime activity). There are set football days for certain year groups.  We also have a Friendship Finder spot, which is monitored by our HPS playleaders. If a child stands in this area, we know that they would like support and encouragement to join in with positive play and interactions with others.

Tesco Donation

Thank you to Tesco’s for donating £330 to Nursery to help develop our garden and vegetable plot. We are looking forward to buying some more plants, sprucing up our walled pallets and equipment for our Mini adventurers.

Eden Project

Last Friday, Year 5 went on a trip to The Eden Project, which linked with their Geography topic of Climate Change. They explored the biomes, whilst looking at plants and finding out fascinating facts.

In the afternoon, they took part in a workshop, where they completed a scavenger hunt to find clues and solutions of ways that the Eden Project reduces Climate change.

Netball Festival

On Thursday 22nd June, Miss Kneller and our Year 5 and 6 Netball team went to a Netball Festival organised by Blundell’s School. The competition involved two leagues of seven local Primary Schools in each group.

Our A Team had a challenging, yet rewarding experience showing off their new skills considering they have had little competition experience. They showed great sportsmanship and collaboration.

Our B Team successfully remained undefeated, due to Oaklee, Aiden and Oliver’s fantastic shooting and the rest of the team’s unstoppable attacking and defensive skills.  A great start to a new netball journey!

Well done to all of them.

Schools swimming gala

Congratulations to the 18 children from years 4,5 & 6, who represented HPS at the schools swimming gala on Wednesday 21st June, they swam against 9 other local primary schools.  The boys & girls from each year group competed in 25m Backstroke, 25m Breaststroke & 25m Freestyle.  The gala was rounded off with a 6 X 25m relay for girls & boys, each team consisted of two year 4’s, two year 5’s and two year 6’s.

The gala was won by Bolham and Heathcoat came 2nd.  All the children showed great sportsmanship by encouraging all competitors and a fantastic time was had by all involved.

Thank you to Mrs Soper, Mr Newsome, Miss E Southcott (swimming assistant) and all the spectators who came and supported us.

Year 6 Cricket festival at THS

On Tuesday 20th June, 12 Year 6 children attended a cricket festival organised by Tiverton High School at the all-weather astro turf. We entered two mixed teams of girls and boys and faced other primary schools, Tidcombe, St Johns and Halberton.  Both teams played back-to-back games, winning two and losing one.

All players played incredibly well and showed amazing team spirit. Many of them had never played cricket before. However, they soon picked up the rules and genuinely enjoyed the game, playing some great cricket, with some exceptional bowling and batting.

What a fabulous representation of sport at HPS, a credit to the school. Well done all!
